Candidate Privacy Policy

Personal information provided by the job applicants to the American Embassy is protected by strict standards that comply with U.S. law and the Japanese Personal Information Protection Act.

When you apply for a U.S. Embassy position, you must agree to the following statement:

The Embassy can use your personal information for recruitment and for employment purposes as if you are offered a job or become employed by the Embassy.

Notwithstanding the provision article 5-4 of the Japanese Employment Security Law, the final candidate is required to disclose the following personal data to determine if the candidate meets U.S. Government Security Standards.

1. Registered Permanent Address
2. Place of Birth
3. Profession and Nationality of Family
4. Philosophical or Political beliefs
5. Participation in labor unions

The U.S. Embassy does not share or disclose private information to third parties without consent of the applicant.

The submitted application documents of unsuccessful candidates are destroyed by the Embassy.

Your application and personal information are maintained during your employment at the Embassy. This information may be used by the Mission for matters related to your duties and employment. Your personal information should be updated appropriately and reported by you to the Mission Management.
