Sept. 3 - Ambassador Roos and Susie Roos welcomed 100 guests to their official residence on Aug. 31 for a mini-concert featuring Hawaiian ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro. Mr. Shimabukuro incorporated a variety of musical genres in his performance, which included the Star-Spangled Banner, an arrangement of the Japanese folk song "Sakura Sakura," a Spanish flamenco tune, and several self-composed pieces. Ambassador Roos called the event a celebration of the close Japan-Hawaii relationship and the crowd honored the performer with a standing ovation.
