Secretary Clinton Reaches Out to Japan

March 23 - Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton visited the Embassy of Japan in Washington, D.C. on March 22 and signed the book of condolence messages for the victims of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Afterwards, in remarks with Japanese Ambassador to the United States Ichiro Fujisaki, she pledged "cooperation and friendship from the American people."

The same day, Secretary Clinton told an NHK reporter in an interview "how deeply sympathetic the United States is to everything that is happening in your country," and expressed her "condolence and sympathy for those who have lost loved ones, family members, friends, and colleagues."

In another interview, she told Fuji TV that "our friendship, our partnership, our alliance I think is even stronger today because of our working together throughout this terrible time of crisis."
