Ambassador Kennedy’s Message Sent to Sagamihara Memorial in Tokyo

On behalf of the American people, I offer my deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those killed and injured. I am deeply shocked and saddened to hear the tragic news of the attack at Tsukui-Yamayuri-En in Sagamihara. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims and with the people of Sagamihara at this difficult time.

I can only imagine how much pain and fear the community of people with disabilities must be feeling right now. People with disabilities have been the victims of hate crimes all over the world, and we must work together to ensure their safety. We must also preserve the rights and dignity of all members of our communities regardless of any disability. It is our duty as human beings to respect one another in all of our rich diversity, and we must commit ourselves to putting an end to the hate that fueled this tragedy.

The United States stands with you during this difficult time. My deepest condolences for your loss.
