Ambassador Roos Visits University in Chiba Prefecture
May 10 - As part of his ongoing efforts to connect with university audiences in Japan, Ambassador Roos traveled to Chiba Prefecture on May 10 to meet with students at Kanda University of International Studies (KUIS). The university features instruction in a wide range of foreign languages, and fully 70% of the students are women.
After greeting university officials and getting a tour of the campus, the Ambassador addressed an audience of nearly 400 students, encouraging them to consider studying abroad in the United States and to seize the opportunity to assist in Japan's recovery and reconstruction after the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.
During a lively Q&A session, the students asked questions - both in person and via Twitter - about the importance of educational exchanges, the significance of the Ambassador's attendance at the 2010 Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony, and the implications of the death of Osama Bin Laden, among others. Following the session with students, the Ambassador conducted a press interview with both student and professional journalists.
