Immigrant Petition (I-130) Appointment Request for Tokyo or Naha - I-130 Exceptions for U.S. Citizen Diplomats and Military Service Members

To Request an Appointment

The form below is to be used to request or change the appointment for an I-130 immigrant petition interview.

To be eligible for the blanket exception, the U.S. citizen petitioner must meet the following conditions:

  • U.S. citizen diplomats and military service members permanently assigned or stationed overseas

AND

  • Filing for your parent, spouse, or child, including step children and adopted children. In the case of step children, the parent's marriage must have taken place before the stepchild turns 18 years old. In the case of adopted children, the child must have met the two-year physical and legal requirements before the child would turn 16 years old.

You are not qualified for this exception if you are:

  • A military reserve member
  • A legal permanent resident
  • A service member assigned to an international organization
  • A government employee overseas who is a personal service contractor
  • A U.S. Direct Hire employee on temporary duty, or on an official visit

The petitioner and the beneficiary must be physically present in our consular district when filing an I-130 petition in Japan. The beneficiary should be able to stay in the country for the time it normally takes to process the visa.

Note:  We conduct I-130 petition interviews by appointment only. When your appointment request is received, you can expect to receive a response regarding your appointment date within 7 working days. After we schedule your appointment, we will send your appointment notice by e-mail. If you do not receive a notice within 7 working days, please resubmit this form using a different web browser and/or listing a different email address.
