I enthusiastically welcome the appointment of Lisa Guillermin Gable as the Commissioner General for the U.S. Pavilion at the 2005 World Exposition, Aichi, Japan. Lisa Guillermin Gable's many years of experience in government, as well as the private and non-profit sectors, will be greatly valued as she leads the U.S. participation at EXPO 2005. I also welcome the participation of Aichi USA 2005, Inc. in designing, building and operating the U.S. Pavilion at EXPO 2005. The U.S. mission in Japan looks forward to working with the U.S. Commissioner General and Aichi USA 2005 to ensure that U.S. participation at the Expo is a success.

EXPO 2005 offers an excellent opportunity to showcase U.S. ingenuity and ideals to the many guests who will visit from throughout Japan and around the world. U.S. presence at EXPO 2005 will also directly contribute to mutual understanding between Japan and the United States. The United States is a world leader in identifying naturefs insights and applying them in the development of useful technologies. I am therefore confident that the U.S. Pavilion, with its theme of "the Franklin Spirit," will support the EXPO 2005 goal of highlighting "Nature's Wisdom."

I sincerely thank the Government of Japan, the Association for the 2005 World Exposition, and the people of Aichi Prefecture for the excellent work they are doing to prepare for the Expo and for inviting the United States to participate.
