Statement by Ambassador Howard H. Baker, Jr. on the Death of Mr. Shosei Koda

The American Embassy staff joins me in sending our heartfelt sympathies to Mr. Koda's family and friends and to the Japanese people.
We strongly condemn this heinous crime. There is no justification for acts like this, which are contrary to the peaceful tenets of the Muslim faith.
We strongly support the Government of Japanfs rejection of terrorist demands and deeply appreciate its steadfast commitment to assisting the Iraqi people in their efforts to create a peaceful, prosperous, and democratic Iraq.
