U.S.-Japan Investment Initiative: Seminars to Facilitate investment in Japan

Nagoya, May 17, 2005
Chiba, May 19, 2005

We would like to alert you to a unique opportunity to investigate investment opportunities in Japan late this spring: the U.S.-Japan Investment Seminars in Nagoya (May 17) and Chiba (May 19), which will include a "Mission" of U.S. companies.

Highlighting investment opportunities in Japan

Under the June 2001 agreement between Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi and President George W. Bush, the governments of Japan and the United States have jointly held seminars in order to promote better understanding of foreign direct investment, and facilitate investment in Japan at the local level. Both sides have been emphasizing the very real investment opportunities that exist in Japan, made even more appealing by the recent upturn in the Japanese economy. This year, full-day seminars will be held in the cities of Nagoya and Chiba on Tuesday and Thursday, May 17 and 19 respectively, followed by concluding events in Tokyo on May 20. Events in Nagoya will coincide with the Aichi Expo, and an event is planned at the U.S. Pavilion.

Mission of U.S. companies

JETRO, the U.S. State Department and the Department of Commerce are working together to recruit a "Mission" of U.S. companies interested in exploring possibilities for investment and cooperation with Japanese companies. U.S. firms will be introduced to counterpart Japanese firms, local officials specialized in investment, top local representatives of METI and JETRO, and U.S. Consulate officials.

A complete schedule will be offered for Mission firms to become familiar with local investment prospects from Monday, May 16 through Friday, May 20. Participation in the seminars and associated programs will be offered free to U.S. Mission firms, although travel and hotel expenses will be the responsibility of each individual firm.
