March 16, 2005

The United States congratulates Japan on its opening on March 25 of the 2005 World Exposition. We are honored to participate in the first World Expo of the 21st century and invite people from Japan, Asia and around the world to visit the U.S. Pavilion at the Expo.

The U.S. Pavilion theme is "The Franklin Spirit," honoring American statesman, diplomat, entrepreneur and innovator Benjamin Franklin and showcasing American culture, values and technological achievements.

The United States will be represented at the 2005 World Expo by Commissioner General Lisa Gable, whom President Bush has accorded the personal rank of Ambassador for the duration of the Expo. The 2005 World Expo will be held March 25 through Sept. 25 in Japan's Aichi Prefecture.
