Ambassador J. Thomas Schieffer visited the U.S. Pavilion at Aichi World Expo 2005 on May 2. Commissioner General Lisa Gable guided Ambassador Schieffer through the pavilion, where the ambassador was able to enjoy the "Franklin Spirit" - the pavilion's dramatic showcase of humanity's technological progress through the ages.

The exhibit is hosted by a hologram-like incarnation of Founding Father Benjamin Franklin.

Ambassador Schieffer also examined a replica Mars Rover, provided by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, as well as a model of a Wright Brothers glider from the early 20th century.

After his tour, Ambassador Schieffer met with members of the press. "It is appropriate that Benjamin Franklin was chosen as a spokesman here at Aichi," Ambassador Schieffer said, referring to the host of the pavilion's video program. "Aichi is about hope, about the future and about what we can do together to make a better and safer world."
