USDA Delists Plant for BEV Noncompliance

February 16, 2006

Earlier this week, while conducting routine audits of the BEV system, USDA found that a plant had not followed an administrative procedure in the management portion of its Quality System Assessment (QSA) program.

The action by the plant did not in any way affect food safety, and the plant's product met all requirements for export to Japan. Nonetheless, USDA determined that the error was a case of BEV noncompliance and delisted the plant.

USDA takes the management of all QSA programs, including and especially the BEV for Japan, very seriously. The quick action by USDA demonstrates its unwavering commitment to (1) the proper functioning of QSA programs and (2) meeting all requirements of overseas customers.
