PRESS RELEASE

Embassy to Hold Sept. 11 Commemorative Ceremony

September 6, 2006

September 11, 2006 marks the fifth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the United States. To commemorate Patriot Day, the U.S. Embassy will conduct a memorial ceremony on the evening of September 11 at 9:35 p.m., just outside the Embassy front gate. Since this terrible day in history had a worldwide impact, this ceremony will provide an opportunity for Americans, Japanese, and citizens of other nations to join hands in remembering the victims of September 11.

Ambassador Schieffer invites you to join him in this ceremony. His brief remarks will be followed by the lighting of candles, a moment of silence, and the placement of flowers at the 9/11-memorial tree. A remembrance book will be available for those who wish to express their thoughts and feelings.

All are welcome to attend. No RSVP is required. The event will occur rain or shine.
