U.S. Ambassador to Japan Authorizes Funds and Material Support to Aid Earthquake Victims

U.S. Ambassador J. Thomas Schieffer has spoken with Japanese government officials to express the sympathy and concern of the United States for the victims of the July 16 earthquake in Niigata and Nagano, as well as to offer the U.S. Embassy's assistance in the aftermath of this disaster.

The Ambassador authorized the disbursal of $100,000 in disaster relief as a symbol of the desire of the United States to do whatever it can to assist the government and people of Japan during this difficult time. U.S. Forces, Japan (USFJ) is also providing material support to the earthquake victims.
