Statement of Ambassador John V. Roos at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum

October 4, 2009

Good afternoon, Konnichiwa. My parents, my son, and I have just visited the Peace Memorial Museum. Like all visitors to this museum, we were deeply moved by what we saw. I am deeply grateful that three generations of my family were able to come here today. And I would like to read to you what I’ve just inscribed in the book. “A visit to Hiroshima is a powerful reminder of the destructiveness of nuclear weapons, and underscores the importance of working together to seek the peace and security of a world without them.” Thank you very much.

Thank you for the visit. My family was deeply moved. Thank you for hosting my family here today. Arigato gozaimasu.
