Ambassador John V. Roos Represented the United States of America at the Aug. 6, 2010 Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony

August 6, 2010

Ambassador Roos attended the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony today to express respect for all the victims of World War II. This was Ambassador Roos' second visit to Hiroshima and the first by an American Ambassador on Aug. 6.

Ambassador Roos noted, "For the sake of future generations, we must continue to work together to realize a world without nuclear weapons." On the 65th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, it is fitting that we renew our determination to ensure that such a conflict is never again repeated. From the tragedy of that war, the U.S. and Japan have moved forward to become the closest of friends and allies. We also share a common goal of advancing President Obama's vision of a world without nuclear weapons.
