Scholarship Recipients Meet Ambassador Roos

Aug. 12 - Ambassador Roos met on Aug. 10 with the 2009 and 2010 recipients of the Toshiyuki Tanaka/American Embassy Scholarships to discuss their roles as future leaders and the benefits of an international education for students and their communities. This high school exchange program, coordinated by Japan American Field Services (AFS) Intercultural Programs, annually sends two Japanese students to the United States and one American student to Japan for the academic year. One recipient said of her experience in Kansas: "That was the best year of my life!" Ambassador Roos urged the students to encourage their friends and classmates to take advantage of study-abroad opportunities in the United States and Japan, stressing the impact on the future of their countries and the bilateral relationship.
