President Obama Announces End of Combat Operations in Iraq

Sept. 2 – On Aug. 31, President Obama announced the end of combat operations in Iraq. In speeches to U.S. soldiers at Fort Bliss, Texas, and to the nation from the Oval Office, the President reiterated his strategy to end the Iraq war responsibly through a transition to full Iraqi sovereignty, to build a lasting relationship with the Iraqi people and government, and to support Iraq's productive reintegration into the region.
