Secretary Clinton and Foreign Minister Maehara Hold Bilateral Meeting

Sept. 27 - On Sept. 23 in New York, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Foreign Minister Seiji Maehara discussed the importance of the U.S.-Japan alliance and strategic issues including North Korea, Iran, and Afghanistan. They also covered bilateral issues including Futenma relocation, trade, and ratification of the Hague Convention. In remarks to the press afterwards, Assistant Secretary of State Philip Crowley described the meeting, which occurred on Foreign Minister Maehara's sixth day in his new position, as "excellent."
