State Department Focuses on Human Rights, Disability Rights

Dec. 14 - Secretary of State Hillary Clinton made remarks at a Dec. 10 Town Hall in Washington commemorating the anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in the United Nations. She noted that the Declaration's words "hearken back to our own Declaration of Independence," emphasizing that "from the beginning, the United States has recognized that our rights are inextricably bound up with the rights of others. And we remain committed as a nation, and certainly in the Obama Administration, to working toward realizing a world that was envisioned by both of these declarations." On Dec. 2, she issued a statement on the International Day of Persons With Disabilities, stressing that "disability inclusion and non-discrimination are central to all of our policies and practices, in Washington and around the globe."
