August 4, 2011

Chargé d’Affaires James P. Zumwalt will represent the United States of America at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony on August 6, 2011. Chargé Zumwalt noted, "I am honored to attend this year's Peace Memorial Ceremony in Hiroshima. We look forward to continuing to work with Japan to advance President Obama's goal of realizing a world without nuclear weapons.

"Our two countries are cooperating on a wide range of bilateral, regional, and global issues, and I'm proud that the United States is standing together with Japan as it works to recover and rebuild in the wake of the March 11 disasters."

U.S. Ambassador John V. Roos, who attended last year's Peace Memorial Ceremony, will be out of the country on previously scheduled travel at the time of the ceremony. Ambassador Roos sends his deep respect to Mayor Kazumi Matsui and to the people of Hiroshima as they commemorate the 66th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.
