Ambassador Roos Meets Okinawa Governor Nakaima

Oct. 31, 2011

U.S. Ambassador John V. Roos met with Okinawa Governor Hirokazu Nakaima at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo today. During the meeting, the Ambassador reiterated America’s deep respect for Okinawa and its people, and underscored the many contributions Okinawa has made to the U.S.-Japan Alliance.

The Ambassador also noted that progress on the planned realignment of U.S. forces, including the Futenma Replacement Facility, would greatly reduce the impact of U.S. bases on local communities in Okinawa while maintaining the capabilities necessary to meet America’s commitments to the defense of Japan and the security of the region.
