Statement by Ambassador John V. Roos on the Passing of Senator Daniel K. Inouye

Dec. 18, 2012

My wife Susie and I were enormously saddened to learn of the passing of Senator Daniel Inouye on the evening of Dec. 17 in Maryland. A World War II veteran, Medal of Honor recipient and Hawaii's senior Senator, Daniel Inouye was a true American hero and a man that we respected deeply and greatly admired. Americans have lost a senior statesman, and the U.S.-Japan relationship has lost its most stalwart supporter and friend.

My colleagues and I at the U.S. Mission in Japan join with Senator Inouye's innumerable friends and admirers in Washington, D.C., in the State of Hawaii, across the United States, and in Japan, in extending our sincerest condolences to the Inouye family.
