Third Anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 11, 2011

March 12, 2014

Today, the U.S. Embassy in Japan will mark the third anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake with a moment of silence. We remember those who lost their lives and honor the strength and resilience of the citizens of the Tohoku region and all Japan.

As Secretary of State John F. Kerry said in a statement, "The United States will continue to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our Japanese friends as they rebuild their lives and communities. On this solemn anniversary, I join all Americans in sending our thoughts and prayers to the people of Japan."
