Ambassador Kennedy and Under Secretary Gottemoeller Represent the U.S. at the 2015 Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony

Ambassador Caroline Kennedy and Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security Rose Gottemoeller represented the United States of America at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony on August 6, 2015.

Ambassador Kennedy first visited the Peace Memorial in 1978, with her uncle, Senator Edward Kennedy. She represented the United States at the ceremony in 2014.

"Today as we mourn those who perished in Hiroshima and remember all of the victims of World War II, we recommit ourselves to working toward a world where all people can live in peace. In this year which marks 70 years since the end of World War II, the relationship between our two countries stands as a model of the power of reconciliation. The United States looks forward to continuing to work with Japan to advance President Obama's goal of realizing a world without nuclear weapons. I would like to thank the citizens of Hiroshima for inviting me to participate in their Peace Memorial Ceremony," said Ambassador Kennedy.
