Statement by Ambassador Caroline Kennedy after Meeting Cuban Ambassador Rodriguez Costa

September 28, 2015

Serving as Ambassador to Japan during the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II has shown me the power of reconciliation to change the world. The chance to welcome Cuban Ambassador Rodriguez Costa to the U.S. Embassy as a full diplomatic partner was a special honor.

Fifty-two years after the Cuban Missile Crisis, President Kennedy would be proud that President Obama has reached out to the Cuban people, and I look forward to a future full of hope and opportunity for citizens of both our countries.
